What is the USPS Form 1583 and why do I need it?

The USPS form 1583 is used when outsourcing the receipt of your mail to a trusted partner for mailroom scanning. It identifies your CMRA.

What is a CMRA? The Commercial Mail Receiving Agency authorizes your vendor to receive and handle mail on your behalf. CMRAs are mailing, printing and coworking offices that handle and process mail on behalf of organizations and businesses.

Where do I get the latest version of USPS Form 1583?

Is the USPS Form 1583 difficult to complete?

  • Completing the USPS CMRA Form 1583 is straightforward.  The form is seeking to identify:
  • The mailing address of the responsible party handling your mail.
  • Who and where do you live
  • Notarized Signature

You will be asked to provide two (2) forms of identification.  At least one primary ID and a second that verifies your current address.

Primary ID choices are:

  • Driver’s License

Getting the Form 1583 Notarized

The CMRA Form 1583 is required to be notarized. This can be done either in person with a notary or online.  Using an online notary service such as Notarize or OneNotary can simplify and expedite this process all from the comfort of your home or office.
